Egressive
Open For Business Server
Combining up-to-date commercial-grade Open Source software with affordable hardware and Egressive's understanding of the unique New Zealand business environment, Egressive "Open For Business" servers are designed to sit unobtrusively on your office network. Our servers are available either directly from Egressive or through resellers.
With an Egressive server, you're open for business
An "Open For Business" server gives you the ability to support 20+ Microsoft Windows 98/2000/XP, Linux, or Mac OS X workstations with the following services:
- Network Drives - your data safely stored on redundant disks, with local backup archives to recover from those accidental file deletions.
- Safe Email Services - enterprise level email capabilities with full current anti-spam and anti-virus filtering. You'll also have your own webmail system, allowing you to read your mail securely from anywhere you have access to the Internet.
- Internet Access - a common gateway to the Internet for selected (or all) of your staff, a web proxy to reduce your ISP usage bills - with optional ad-blocking facilities.
- Open Source Applications - the latest best-of-breed Open Source applications for your Microsoft Windows and Linux workstations will always be available you to install with one mouse click - free of charge.
- Remote administration - we can provide full server maintenance and administration from our offices, what's more, we can provide remote support for Microsoft Windows and Linux workstations. Support available per incident or through support agreements.
Additional Capabilities
The Open For Business servers can allow you to take advantage of other Egressive services - ask us for more information!
- Automatic Offsite Backups - business data that has changed during the day gets copied over your broadband connection to our backup storage servers, based in our Christchurch facility, overnight. Older files and folders can also be recovered.
- Virtual Private Networks (VPN) - functionality allowing secure remote access to your business network from home or branch offices.
- Intranet - common documents you need all your staff to see, shared calendars, manage sales leads, and other capabilities. Open source solutions can provide all of these high-value services on your intranet for a fraction of the cost of commercial alternatives.
- Database Hosting - you can host your company's own industrial strength SQL databases - no need for MS SQL Server or Oracle license fees, no need to pay a premium for an external host.
Open For Business servers are reliable. Most of our clients have server uptimes (i.e. the time between server reboots) measured in hundreds of days - they "just work". Even so, information technology is only as good as the support behind it if things somehow do go wrong! Egressive provides two levels of support for our Open For Business servers: pro rata and fully managed. Egressive's fully managed Open For Business servers receive the following benefits:
- Automatic server security upgrades
- Well defined upgrade path with system upgrades as required
- System activity and usage statistics/System log analysis
- Usage and capacity trend analysis
- Remote monitoring of server status
- Configuration change management
- Workstation open source application repository
- Remote workstation support and open source migration management
Pro rata support and consultancy is always available at our published rates, and may be a more cost effective support solution for some clients.
